By News Staff

Two people, including an 11-year-old child and 42-year-old woman, died in a multi-vehicle pileup on Montreal’s South Shore.

Ten people were also injured in the accident that involved seven vehicles and a heavy truck.

It happened around 10:30 p.m. in a construction zone on Highway 30 eastbound in St-Hubert.

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) report that the driver of the 18-wheeler did not slow down as he approached the roadwork area near Grande-Allée Blvd. and ended up crashing into the seven vehicles in front of him.

The two fatalities were in the same vehicle.

SQ still fear for the lives of a 55-year-old man and a 16-year-old, who were also seriously injured and remain in critical condition. Eight others are being treated for minor injuries.

The truck driver is being treated for shock.

The SQ is still on the scene and investigating.

Highway 30 eastbound remains closed to traffic between Grande-Allée and Route 112.
