Snowstorm coming to Montreal-area

By News Staff

A first big snowstorm of the season is expected to hit southwestern Quebec on Friday, with 15 to 20 cm expected to fall into Saturday.

Some schools already sending out notices that they will be closed on Friday, like Peter Hall School – both campuses will be closed for employees and students.

Forecasts say the snow could start falling in Montreal and the surrounding regions by 6 a.m., making the morning commute difficult and visibility reduced amid heavy snow.

Environment Canada has issued snowfall warning for:

  • Châteauguay – La Prairie area
  • Laval area
  • Longueuil – Varennes area
  • Montreal Island area

Temperatures will hover around the freezing mark and winds will also pick up as the system moves in.

More periods of snow could be seen on Sunday as well.

The massive storm system is affecting millions of travellers across the U.S. northeast.

Temperatures will also take a dip next week for the Montreal-area, high of 1 degree on Monday, but then -5 on Tuesday and -8 on Wednesday, but sun and clouds for all three days.
