By News Staff

Protesters gathered on Saturday to condemn the prohibition of women from getting an education by the Taliban in Afghanistan.

Protesters are asking for western countries and the Canadian government to condemn the Taliban. They are also urging governments close their head offices in some countries and stop collaboration with the Taliban which, under their rule, are not allowing women to get educated

In a second demonstration, a group of artists and activists from the Iranian community of Canada will present a symbolic performance, “Anger Needs no Translation” to echo the voice of Iran’s revolution and the Iranian protestors who have been killed or are at risk of execution.

“The performance is a show of reaction and anger. It is to remain in solidarity with the people of Iran in this critical situation. Some of the Iranian Canadian artists and activists have organized a symbolic performance of shouting in anger, a common language of any human who feels the depth of suffering of people in Iran.” said one of the protesters, Maryam Azimzadeh.

She added, “This is an opportunity to send a clear message to the Islamic regime of Iran and its supporters, that Iranians worldwide have no fear of the regime and stand to fight against them. In addition, the performers want to draw more condemnation and action from Canada, the EU, the United States, and other Western nations against the regime of Iran.”

Members of the Iranian community will also gather on Sunday, Jan. 15 at Place des Festivals to show their anger and protest to send a clear message to the Canadian government to take an action in adding the IRGC to the list of terrorist groups.
