Montreal police (SPVM) are investigating after an 19-year-old student was stabbed at an adult school in Montreal North on Tuesday morning, and an 18-year-old turned himself in to police later in the day.
Calls coming into 911 around 8:30 a.m. about a student that was assaulted and injured at École secondaire Amos on Saint-Vital, between Monselet and Prieur.
“When police arrived on the scene they located a victim, male age 19 years old, who seriously injured to the upper body and was transported to the hospital,” Véronique Dubuc, from the SPVM.
Authorities say medical officials now confirm the victim’s life is not in danger.
“From the first information we have on-site, the assault would have occurred concerning a conflict between two students that would degenerated into an assault with a sharp weapon,” added Dubuc.
The suspect fled the scene on foot before police arrived, but later went to a local police station in Montreal North to turn himself in. He is being met by investigators and he will likely appear in court Wednesday to face charges in connection with this event.
No one else was injured.
A perimeter was established and a K9 called in.
Investigators and forensic technicians were also on-hand to comb the scene and meet with witnesses.
