REM in service on the South Shore within “30 to 45 days”

The South Shore branch of the Réseau express métropolitain ( REM) could be in service within 30 to 45 days, according to a notice sent to the Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain (ARTM).

This notice was shared on Monday with the region’s public transit companies, including the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) and the Réseau de transport de Longueuil (RTL). “This is excellent news for sustainable mobility in the region,” ARTM spokesman Simon Charbonneau reacted in an e-mail.

For its part, CDPQ Infra has confirmed that on Wednesday it will begin the last phase of tests before putting its network into service between the Brossard and Gare centrale stations.

The dry run consists of running the network at the same frequency as when it is put into service, but without passengers. The Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec subsidiary will confirm the official commissioning date at a later date.
