“Resuscitation was performed on the girl. Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital,” said Sûreté du Québec (SQ) spokesperson Sergeant Stéphane Tremblay.
SQ investigators, crime scene technicians and a coroner were on the scene Monday evening to try to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the drowning.
By mid-evening, the provincial police force was unable to say whether the girl was being supervised when she was near the pool, or whether the pool was protected by a fence.
This is the fourth drowning of the Saint-Jean-Baptiste long weekend. A man in his 20s drowned near Verdun beach on Friday. Saturday a 29-year-old man drowned while paddle boarding in Beauchamp Lake near Trécesson, a small town in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region. Around the same time a man in his 50s drowned on the St. Lawrence River in L’Ange-Gardien on the outskirts of Quebec City.
