Another smog warning issued for Montreal due to wildfires

By News Staff

A smog warning was issued for Montreal, Laval and parts of southern Quebec on Wednesday afternoon.

Environment Canada says wildfire smoke will be high Wednesday and Thursday, but “less significant” than Sunday’s episode – when Montreal had the worst air quality in the world according to an air pollution tracker.

The weather authority warns “forest fire smoke can be harmful to everyone’s health, even at low concentrations.”

At higher risk are people with lung or heart disease, the elderly, children and pregnant women.

LATEST ON QUEBEC WILDFIRES:

Quebec’s forest fire prevention agency (SOPFEU) reported 110 active fires Wednesday afternoon, including 73 in the southern half of the province.

Several communities in northern and western Quebec are still subject to evacuation orders.
