2 drownings, 1 swimmer missing Sunday in Quebec

Sunday took a tragic turn as two drownings occurred and a swimmer went missing.

A man in his 50s from Château-Richer died in the early afternoon after being found unresponsive near a body of water.

According to Camille Savoie, a spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec, the emergency services were called around 11 a.m.

“According to our first information, the victim, a man in his 50s, was on a paddle board when he fell into the water,” said Savoie. “He would not have been able to get back on it.”

Also in the early afternoon, a 91-year-old woman drowned in a swimming pool near Loretteville. The call came in around 2:15 p.m.

Meanwhile authorities are looking for a man in his 30s who disappeared after jumping into the water in the Rivière Rouge in the Laurentians.

The call to emergency services came in around 12:30 p.m., said Savoie.

“According to our information, he jumped into the water to swim, but did not come to the surface and was lost to sight,” she said.

The individual was not wearing a flotation device. He was accompanied by another person who did not swim there.

Patrollers, members of the local fire department and a helicopter were actively looking for the missing person on Sunday afternoon.
