79 new social and affordable housing units in Ahuntsic-Carterville

A joint effort by the Quebec government, the city of Montreal, and Interloge, a real estate company that provides rental, building, development, and management services for social and affordable housing, will create a new affordable housing project in Montreal’s Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough.

A total of 79 new units will be converted into social and affordable housing.

The investment, says Quebec’s Minister responsible for Housing, France-Élaine Duranceau, is part of the solution to the housing crisis.

“We’re definitely looking at doing more of this,” Duranceau said during Monday’s press conference. “It’s one part of the solution. But we also need to build more. This allows us to keep the units affordable, but we also need to increase the number of units available on the market. So it’s both. The housing crisis will not be dealt with just one solution. It’s multiple solutions and this is a very good one.”

Benoit Dorais, the City of Montreal’s vice-president of the executive council, responsible for housing, and mayor of the Sud-Ouest borough, emphasized that cooperation among all levels of government was the key in solving this crisis.

“It’s really important for us at the City of Montreal,” he said, to collaborate with non-profit organizations [like Interloge] to ensure that housing remains affordable. That’s why we’re making a $2.6-million contribution to the project.”
