Two overnight police chases near Montreal: arrests made, one in critical condition

Two police chases happened overnight.
The first in Beloeil — on Montreal’s South Shore.
Three teenagers, from 17 to 19 years of age, were arrested — one was carrying a handgun.
At around 2:15 a.m., officers from the Régie intermunicipale de police Richelieu Saint-Laurent attempted to intercept an SUV on Route 116.
The driver refused to stop, prompting the chase.
It didn’t take long before the driver drove over a median – lost control – and collided violently with a lamppost.
The three occupants of the vehicle fled on foot, but were quickly caught by police.
In a separate police chase, a man was seriously injured in downtown Montreal.
And Quebec’s police watchdog – the BEI – is investigating the circumstances.
It initially started in Repentigny around 10:45 p.m. on Monday when officers there attempted to stop a vehicle immobilized at a green light.
The driver then fled westbound on Highway 40, and the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) took over.
Once in Montreal, the vehicle is said to have collided with the central wall at an exit of the Ville-Marie tunnel.
The suspect was seriously injured and taken to hospital.
An investigation has been opened by the BEI and the criminal investigation into the suspect has been transferred to the Montreal police.
“Four BEI investigators have been assigned to look into the circumstances surrounding the intervention,” the BEI said in a press release.
