By News Staff

A worker is in critical condition after falling 10 metres down a ventilation shaft at Montreal’s Olympic Stadium on Monday.

The Montreal Fire Department was called around 12:20 p.m. after calls were made to 911.

Firefighters specializing in confined space rescues were able to reach him quickly, before he was taken charge of by ambulance services.

The worker, a man in his 30s, was conscious when paramedics arrived, and they say he suffered “traumatic injuries.”

However, the circumstances of the incident remains unknown.

The Quebec workplace safety board, the Commission des normes, de l’équité, de la santé et de la sécurité du travail (CNESST), has opened an investigation into the incident.

A fire at the end of March at the Olympic Stadium caused major water and smoke damage. It’s being investigated by the Montreal police’s arson squad. Workers have been onsite to cleanup the damages.
