The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forests has modified the ban on open forest fires in several regions of Quebec and campfires are permitted again.
The ban was put in place June 4.
According to the Society for the Protection of Forests Against Fire (SOPFEU), the ban was necessary at the time, but the return of rain, after several days of hot weather, prompted the Ministry to lift it for some areas.
Since the start of the season, 173 forest fires have affected 11,924.9 hectares of land.
Currently, there are five active fires in the Intensive Protection Zone.
Anyone who violates the ban can be subject to fines ranging from $500 to $50,000.
