Construction Holidays: 18 deaths on Quebec roads and waterways, SQ reports

By News Staff

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) has released their annual road report for the construction holiday break.

There were 17 fatal collisions that took place on and off the road, totaling 18 deaths in 2024. Last year, there were 19 deadly accidents and 24 deaths.

“The police  ensured an increased presence during this summer period when, among other things, traffic flow was particularly high,” reads a press release.

The stats include collisions on the water and off-road as well.

“Let us recall that failure to comply with signage, failure to comply with speed limits, driving while impaired by drugs, alcohol or a combination of the two, and failure to wear safety equipment once again contribute to the vast majority of serious and fatal collisions this year.”

For many Quebecers, summer vacations are still underway.

The SQ is reminding the public to remain cautious, on and off the road, especially during their recreational activities.
