Victoria Bridge reopens towards Montreal after emergency inspection

The Victoria Bridge was reopened towards Montreal on Friday afternoon, after being closed for part of the day due to an emergency inspection because of the passage of a heavy vehicle.
Quebec’s Transport Ministry wrote on its Québec 511 account on Friday that the span between Montreal and the South Shore heading into the city was reopened around 4:45 p.m.

The closure happened just after 11:30 a.m. on Friday.
Canadian National (CN), which owns the Victoria Bridge, told CityNews in a statement that on “Friday morning, a commercial truck, exceeding the allowed weight restriction, crossed the Victoria Bridge.”
CN says the the truck was stopped by officials and CN closed the bridge for an emergency inspection.
“CN crews are working as quickly as possible to complete the inspection in order to re-open the Victoria bridge for the evening rush hour,” the statement reads.
The work seemed to have been completed in the middle of rush hour.
On Aug. 6, the bridge was closed in both directions to make way for emergency repair work to fix an aqueduct. The City of Montreal had to work on its water system at the corner of the bridge and des Irlandais Street to fix a road surface that caved in.
In March 2022, the bridge was also unexpectedly closed for more than three hours to carry out an inspection.
The Victoria Bridge links Saint-Lambert and Montreal’s South-West area. Approximately 25,000 motorists use the bridge every day.
