Montreal invests $27M to renovate Jeanne-Mance Park by 2026

The City of Montreal is investing $27 million for a makeover of Jeanne-Mance Park – over the next two years.

There will be a modernized and more accessible multi-sport field, a dog park, a new chalet, and a wading pool.

The work is already underway and is expected to be done by June 2026.

“Jeanne Mance Park, a true jewel in the heart of Montreal and a gateway for citizens to Mount Royal is about to benefit from major investments for its modernization. This emblematic site, one of the busiest in the city, will see its infrastructure renewed to better meet the current needs of our community,” said Plateau-Mont-Royal Mayor Luc Rabouin.

The “crossroads” area, linking Rachel Street to Mount Royal Park will undergo the first phase of construction work.

“These transformations aim to preserve the soul of the park while making it more accessible and enjoyable for all generations,” said Rabouin.

According to a press release from the City of Montreal, the chalet windows will be replaced, universal changing room and bathrooms will be added, and the electric systems will be modernized.

Additionally, some paths will be redeveloped in the park, including the multi-purpose track. Furniture and plantings will be added, including large trees to replace the ones that are gone.

The synthetic turf field will also be getting a makeover, according to Projet Montréal member Caroline Bourgeois.

“We want to provide Jeanne Mance Park with sports facilities that meet everyone’s current needs and that a greater number of people can take ownership of the multi-sports field,” said Bourgeois. “In keeping with heritage considerations, the field will be modernized with lower fences. The lighting system will be replaced with less dazzling lighting that can be turned off remotely when the field is not in use. New stands will be better adapted to current needs and universally accessible.”

The city also plans to build a temporary dog park that will be fenced in near the volleyball courts with benches and trash cans.

All the furniture, including the fences, will be removed once the permanent spot for the dog park is chosen in Jeanne-Mance Park.
