A two-year-old child is in critical condition after being found unconscious Tuesday evening in a swimming pool at a private residence in the borough of Île-Bizard-Sainte-Geneviève in Montreal.

According to Montreal police (SPVM), a call was made to 911 around 6 p.m. about an accident on des Cageux Street, near Bord-du-Lac Road.

The child had been pulled out of the pool before emergency services arrived and was then taken care of by firefighters and police when they arrived on the scene, said SPVM spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant.

The child was taken to hospital and is currently in critical condition.

A perimeter was set up on des Cageux Street and investigators went to analyze the scene and understand the circumstances surrounding this event, added Brabant.
