Lesley Hill is set to replace Catherine Lemay as the new national director of youth protection, after Lemay resigned on Monday at the request of Minister Lionel Carmant.
Hill is a former commissioner of the Laurent Commission, which examined the state of the youth protection system following the tragic death of a Granby girl in 2019.
Under pressure, Social Services Minister Lionel Carmant said on Tuesday that he expected his new national director to be more “vocal” and more present.
He had asked Lemay to step down, after media reports last Friday revealed that at least nine educators at the Cité-des-Prairies rehabilitation centre for troubled youth in Montreal had allegedly had sexual interactions with at least five minor residents.
On Tuesday it was revealed that there were more alleged incidents at two other facilities, one in Laval and another in Montérégie.
The Liberal party of Quebec calling for Carmant to step down, but the Minister dismissing it and Premier Legault reiterating his confidence in him.
