A 58-year-old man was arrested after a conflict escalated into an assault near the entrance of the Côte-Sainte-Catherine metro station in Montreal on Wednesday night.

Montreal police (SPVM) received a call to 911 around 10 p.m., about an incident on the orange line in the borough of Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 40-year-old man with injuries to the upper body. He was transported to hospital and his life is not considered to be in danger.

Police say the suspect used a blunt object to attack the victim.

The 58-year-old man fled the scene, but was found around midnight by officers and arrested.

According to police, both men knew each other.

“At this stage of the investigation, investigators are trying to determine the involvement of the two men in this event,” said SPVM spokesperson Caroline Chèvrefils.

The suspect was released with a promise to appear in court.
