‘Best day ever!’: Montreal school transforms library into Winter Wonderland

“Best day ever,” said Kiara Manna, student at Montreal's Honoré Mercier Elementary on their library being transformed into a Winter Wonderland on Thursday for Santa's visit. Pamela Pagano reports.

Santa made a stop at Honoré Mercier Elementary School in Saint-Leonard on Thursday, and to celebrate his arrival their library was transformed into a Winter Wonderland.

“This is the best day ever,” said Kiara Manna, grade one student at the school. “Olaf is here, the gingerbread man, Santa and the Grinch!”

Tree-mendous!

Their first ever Winter Wonderland took parents from the school’s Home and School team over 10 hours to create.

“We wanted to do something different for the kids,” said Felicia Spadafino, Head of Home and School. “Really give back to the students for all the hard work they’re doing during the year.”

And across the hall, breakfast for all!

That, an Honoré Mercier tradition.

About 300 plates filled with pancakes and bacon were served.

“I’m having so much fun because my friends are having a blast today,” said Alexander Foussekis, grade two student. “And I like pancakes.”

“I love Christmas,” added Romina Mancini, Vice President, Honoré Mercier Home and School. “I love magic, I just love creating things for the children and also for ourselves.”

“We’re just so excited, we’ve been planning so much and we’re just so excited to see it all come together.”

Santa gifted every student a cookie plus a French and English book.

And the group photos they took with Saint Nick will be developed and sent home to the student’s families.

“I’m very happy because it’s my last year here,” said Eva Pompa, grade six student. “It was nice seeing all this happen.”

“I had no words,” added her classmate, Beatrice Brosseau. “It’s amazing.”

“Thank you parents,” said Music Teacher, Veronica Graniero. “We really enjoyed today and our students are all very happy.”

Happy indeed, and memories guaranteed.

“I was scared of the Grinch,” said Manna. “But this year I’m not, I give him a high five!”
