Legault announces a cabinet reshuffle in the fall

By The Canadian Press

Aware of his government’s unpopularity, Quebec Premier François Legault announced Friday that there would be a cabinet reshuffle in the fall.

Legault made this revelation this morning, during an event to announce the Coalition avenir Québec (CAQ) candidacy in the Arthabaska by-election.

He said he was “very aware” that many Quebecers were disappointed with his government and promised to “prepare changes” during the summer, including a reshuffle of the cabinet.

“We will make the changes that are necessary to gain the support of Quebecers more than ever,” he said during a press conference in Victoriaville.

During question period, he assured that he, personally, will not leave his position as Primer of Quebec and leader of the CAQ.

Legault was accompanied by Keven Brasseur, the former president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Bois-Francs and L’Érable, who will represent the CAQ in the Arthabaska by-election.

He praised the skills of Brasseur, a 29-year-old accountant, who is a former president of the CAQ’s youth wing.

The date of the by-election is not yet known; the government has until September to call the vote.

The CAQ hopes to retain this riding, which was previously represented by Éric Lefebvre, who became a federal MP.

But the battle is already shaping up to be a tough one: the CAQ candidate is facing former journalist Alex Boissonneault, who represents the Parti Québécois, and Éric Duhaime, leader of the Conservative Party of Quebec. Québec solidaire is counting on Pascale Fortin for this by-election.

The Liberals still have not named their candidate.
