The Montreal man who killed his ex-girlfriend in the middle of the street was found guilty by a jury, which concluded he was not suffering from a mental illness.
On Oct. 19, 2021, François Pelletier stabbed 24-year-old Romane Bonnier more than 20 times in front of horrified witnesses.
Bonnier was a singer and actor.

More than three years later, following over a month of trial proceedings and three full days of jury deliberation, Pelletier was found guilty of first-degree murder.
Pelletier, who represented himself in court, attempted to plead not criminally responsible due to a mental disorder. However, that defense was dismantled when the Crown called a psychiatrist as an expert witness.
He also testified in June saying, “I killed Romane, I stabbed her 26 times. Operation Wrath of Heaven was a planned assassination. But there are facts in life that need to be put in a proper context.”
A conviction for first-degree murder carries an automatic life sentence, which means Pelletier, now 39 years old, will be imprisoned with no possibility of parole for at least 25 years.
A sentencing hearing is set for Aug. 4.
