Héroux-Devtek suspends operations at its Laval plant after a day of strike action

By Lia Lévesque, The Canadian Press

Héroux-Devtek announced Wednesday that it was suspending operations at its Laval plant, where approximately 100 workers held a one-day strike the day before.

For the Fédération de l’industrie manufacturière union, affiliated with the CSN, this is nothing less than a lockout.

The employer also indicated that it had requested conciliation to facilitate discussions with the union. It states that negotiations are at an impasse after 22 meetings.

The landing gear manufacturer nevertheless says it is ready to resume discussions with the union “as soon as the CSN presents realistic monetary demands.”

The union deplores the employer’s choice: “throwing its employees out onto the street after a single day of strike action for refusing to share profits with those who do the work is the deplorable strategy adopted by Héroux-Devtek in Laval,” it denounced in a press release.
