Patients at risk of blood-borne infections due to unhygienic practice by a Montreal doctor

The Quebec government is warning patients of Dr. Adi Yoskovitch, a specialist in otolaryngology (ENT) and cervicofacial surgery, that they may have been exposed to blood-borne infections due to the doctor’s uncleaned tools and office.
Patients of Dr. Yoskovitch are being asked to get tested as a precautionary measure after the National Public Health Director sent a directive to Santé Québec asking that patients undergo preventive screening.
An investigation by the Sous Ministériat de Prévention et de Santé Publique uncovered that patients who had appointments with Yoskovitch dating back to 2002 for either an endoscopy procedure or cervicofacial surgery may be at “low to very low risk” of being infected blood-borne infection such as hepatitis B (HBV), hepatitis C (HCV) or human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
Most of the procedures were carried out in private practice. All of Dr. Yoskovitch’s practice locations are in the Laval and Montreal areas.
The government states that among the procedures performed in public institutions, only people who underwent an endoscopy (not surgery) performed by Dr. Yoskovitch should be concerned.
If patients were tested for hepatitis B, hepatitis C and human immunodeficiency virus six months after undergoing a procedure concerned by the alert, there is no need to undergo screening for these viruses again.
