Montrealers face scorching temperatures as heat warning continues

By News Staff

Montreal will continue to bake in high temperatures on Tuesday as a heat warning lingers for the region.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued the special weather statement on Monday, saying extreme heat can affect everyone’s health.

“Determine if you or others around you are at greater risk of heat illness,” they explained. “Check on older adults, those living alone and other at-risk people in-person or on the phone multiple times a day.”

The week began with scorching temperatures as Montreal hit a record of 35°C on Monday, something the city has not seen on Aug. 11 since 1944.

“Conditions will begin to improve during the day on Wednesday,” ECCC said. “More seasonal daytime highs and lower humidity are expected on Thursday.”

As for today, the sunny skies continue to shine with 34°C as the daytime high — but feeling more like 41°C with the humidex.

Come Wednesday, ECCC says that it should become cloudy in the morning with a 60 per cent chance of showers late in the morning and afternoon.

“Risk of a thunderstorm in the afternoon,” the weather agency explained.

It is still set to be hot, hot, hot though with a daytime high forecasted at 29°C, and feeling like 37°C with the humidity.

Then back to sunshine on Thursday and Friday with a high of 28°C expected on both days.

More of this sunshine on Saturday and 32°C — but a 60 per cent chance of showers at night.

That chance of rain continuing into Sunday with cloudy conditions, and a high of 24°C.

For now, sunshine is set to make its return once again on Monday.
