Five people were arrested for kidnapping Tuesday evening on Montreal’s South Shore.
Following a 911 call, officers from the Roussillon Intermunicipal Police Department responded to the Sainte-Catherine Motel, about 20 kilometers south of Montreal, regarding an argument between about 20 individuals.
“At the scene, a group of five people claimed to have been kidnapped earlier that day in Montreal,” the police department said in a press release on Wednesday morning.
“According to the victims and witnesses interviewed at the scene, they were forcibly taken to the location,” they added. “The suspects intended to obtain a ransom for the victims’ release.”
At around 6:50 p.m., the officers arrested five suspects at the scene for kidnapping.
They will be questioned by investigators.
“None of the five suspects are known to the police,” the press release stated. “Several witnesses remain to be interviewed by investigators.”
An investigation is ongoing.
