Montreal police looking for potential sexual assault victims

Montreal police (SPVM) believe there might be additional sexual assault victims connected to 54-year-old Mark Pomeranz, who was taken into custody on Aug. 27.

“The investigators have good reason to believe that the suspect may have had other victims, particularly within the Indigenous community. The investigation team also wants to gather testimony from anyone who may have witnessed his actions,” say police in a press release.

SPVM add that they received a report that around 12:15 a.m. on Aug. 8, a woman had been sexually assaulted in Dorval.

The report indicated that the man tried to earn the woman’s trust and offer her a ride in his vehicle. Once alone, the man reportedly sexually assaulted the woman, uttered threats, and intimidated her before abandoning her and driving away.

Police do not believe this was an isolated incident and believe there may be additional victims.

Pomeranz is described as 5’5″, weighing around 180 lbs, with brown hair, hazel eyes, and speaks English.

Police have released a photo of Pomeranz and his vehicle, which has the licence plate AMB 68M, hoping potential victims come forward.

Anyone who may have been a victim or may have witnessed an incident involving Pomeranz is asked to contact investigators at 514-799-7225, call 911, or go to your local police station to file an official compliant or make a statement.

“You can also contact an Indigenous community organization with which you already have a connection and ask for the support of social worker to accompany you,” explain police.
