Boil water advisory in effect in Sainte-Thérèse, Blainville and Boisbriand

All residents of Sainte-Thérèse, Blainville and Boisbriand are under a boil-water advisory since Monday.

It’s due to low water levels in the Mille Îles River, according to Sainte-Thérèse Mayor Christian Charron.

“With insufficient water in the river, it is not possible to maintain a minimum amount of chlorine in the drinking water distribution system,” the city explained in its advisory.

In a TVA interview Thursday, Charron said that the advisory was still in effect. “[Due to low water levels], we find ourselves with ammonium nitrogen in the raw water.”

“So, for that reason, we are unable to maintain an acceptable water level in our network. So, as a preventive measure, we have this situation,” Charron explained.

The city said that the advisory wasn’t as a result of a mechanical breakdown.

The advisory is in effect for an indefinite period. But, Charron said that he was hoping for good news Thursday afternoon.

Residents are urged to boil their water at a rolling boil for one minute before drinking it, washing fruits and vegetables, brushing teeth, etc.

Non-boiled tap water can only be used when washing dishes in hot water, doing laundry or showering.
