As the Montreal Alouettes gear up for their final regular season game before hosting a playoff game, they can do so knowing their head coach and general manager are sticking around.
Monday, the Als announced that senior vice president of football operations and general manager Danny Maciocia, as well as their head coach Jason Maas had signed two-year contract extensions.
Maciocia has been the Alouettes GM since January 2020, and is now signed through 2029.
“I’m thankful for the continued stability that Mr. Pierre Karl Péladeau has brought to this organization. I’m also grateful that he continues to place his trust in Jason and me,” Maciocia said.
“I’m looking forward to continuing to build a winning culture within the Alouettes organization alongside Coach Maas. Jason and I have worked together for many years, and I’m thrilled that we’ll continue to do so. His leadership in the locker room has been crucial to our success. He holds himself, our players, and our coaches accountable every single day, and he’s a major reason why we’ve achieved the level of success we have since his arrival.”
In December 2023, Maciocia named Maas the head coach of the Alouettes. With his extension, Maas is now signed through 2028.
“I can’t thank Mr. Péladeau enough for his continued belief in what we’re building,” said Maas.
“A commitment to excellence starts at the top of any organization, and our owner, Mr. Péladeau, is a great example of that. It’s been a pleasure working with Danny again. We have a clear understanding of each other’s expectations, and that’s played a big role in our success over the past few seasons. I’m proud of the culture we’ve built together, and I look forward to continuing our work together for the foreseeable future.”
Together as coach and GM, Mass and Maciocia have led the Alouettes to the 2023 Grey Cup, and have record of 33-19-1 over the last three seasons.
Additionally, Maas is just the fourth Alouettes coach to reach the 30-win mark, and is just four wins from tying Lew Hayman for fifth most wins in franchise history.
Meanwhile, with Maciocia as the general manager, the Alouettes have not missed the postseason.
The Alouettes will wrap up their regular season in Winnipeg as they take on the Blue Bombers in what will be a crucial game for both teams on Saturday, and could be a preview of the East Division Semi-Finals.
Montreal sits second in the East Division with a record of 10-7, having lost both games to Hamilton Tiger-Cats, who are also 10-7. For the Alouettes to finish top of the East Division, they need to defeat the Bombers, and have help from the Ottawa Redblacks.
Winnipeg sits fourth in the West Division with a record of 9-8 and currently hold the crossover position into the East Semi-Final. They trail both the BC Lions and Calgary Stampeders who sit at 10-7. However, for Winnipeg to avoid the crossover, they need to beat the Alouettes and have the Lions lose to the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
