Second arson attempt in two days targets commercial building in Montreal’s RDP

Montreal police (SPVM) are investigating a second arson attempt in two days targeting a commercial building in the Rivière-des-Prairies area.

On Wednesday, police received a 911 call at around 2 a.m. concerning an alarm in the building located on Henri-Bourassa Blvd. near Rodolphe-Forget Blvd.

“When police arrived on the scene, there was a small fire starting in the entrance of the business,” said Caroline Chèvrefils, a SPVM media relations officer. “The police put out the fire with a fire extinguisher.”

According to initial information, Chèvrefils noted that one or more suspects allegedly smashed the glass front door and then set fire to the business entrance.

“They [fled] before the arrival of police,” she added. “No incendiary material was found on the scene. The damage to the building are limited to the broken glass door.”

The investigation has been transferred to the SPVM arson squad.

On Tuesday, officers were also investigating the same building after an attempted arson.

Police were called at around 1 a.m. regarding the incident.

The SPVM said that damage to the building was minor and caused by water from the sprinklers.

No one was reportedly injured in either incidents, and no arrests have been made so far.
