The PQ leader, Paul St-Pierre Plamondon, “strongly invites” François Legault to consider calling early elections in the spring, stating that they would “benefit from settling things as soon as possible.”
“We are ready for this. If the CAQ is going to give us another session of division and unnecessary polarization, which does not correspond to any reflection on public policies, well why not follow up on their thinking in the snow and go and submit all this to the Quebecers?”, he stated at a press conference on Friday during his party’s end-of-session review.
The PQ leader was referring to the Prime Minister’s remarks earlier this week that he had “gone for a walk in the snow” and had decided to remain in office.
François Legault retorted that the PQ leader was “a little bit arrogant”.
“So he doesn’t want to respect our law which says we have elections on a fixed date because he’s leading in the polls?” he asked.
The next provincial elections are normally scheduled for October 2026.
The Parti Québécois is at the top of voting intentions, while the Coalition Avenir Québec could be wiped off the map if elections were held today, according to the polling aggregator Qc125.
