Nearly 60,000 homes in Quebec were without power on Saturday morning after severe thunderstorms hit several areas of the province the previous day.
At 4:15 p.m., 26,090 Hydro-Québec customers were without power, according to data on the state-owned utility’s Info-pannes website.
The hardest-hit region was the Outaouais, where 15,340 households were dealing with power outages, followed by the Laurentians (6,141) and Montérégie (1,442).
Laval and Montreal were also affected, with 771 and 371 addresses impacted, respectively.
“(The outages) were caused by wind gusts reaching up to 90 km/h in some areas, accompanied by lightning and thunderstorms,” Hydro-Québec stated in a message on its website.
More than 140 crews from the state-owned utility are on the ground Saturday working to restore service.
