Windy start gives way to a warmer week in Montreal

A blustery start to the week will bring showers and strong winds today before conditions turn brighter and noticeably warmer in the days ahead.

Monday will begin cloudy, with a 60 per cent chance of showers through the morning. The clouds will gradually give way to a mix of sun and cloud, but west winds will remain strong at 30 km/h, with gusts reaching 50 km/h. Temperatures will hold near 11 Celsius, with a moderate UV index of 3.

The wind will pick up further tonight, gusting as high as 60 km/h under partly cloudy skies. The overnight low will fall to around 5 C.

Tuesday is expected to bring a welcome return of sunshine. Skies will be mainly sunny, although west winds will continue at 20 km/h, gusting to 40 km/h. The high will reach 13 C before clouds increase overnight, with a low of 7 C.

A much warmer pattern arrives Wednesday. Despite cloudy skies, temperatures are forecast to climb to 19 C, well above the seasonal normal high of 15 C. The warmth will come with increasing unsettled weather, however, as Wednesday night brings a 60 per cent chance of showers and a low of 12 C.

Cloudy conditions will persist Thursday, with a 30 per cent chance of showers during the day and a high of 16 C. Another chance of showers is expected Thursday night, when temperatures dip to around 10 C.

The end of the week looks calmer. Friday is forecast to be sunny with a high of 14 C, followed by cloudy periods overnight and a low of 7 C. Saturday will bring a mix of sun and cloud, with a high near 13 C, though another 40 per cent chance of showers is expected Saturday night.

Sunday could bring another taste of warmth, with a mix of sun and cloud and a 40 per cent chance of showers. The high is expected to reach 18 C.

Overall, the week will feature a sharp mix of autumn weather, strong winds and showers to start, a sunny Tuesday, a brief surge of warmth Wednesday, and more seasonable temperatures heading into the weekend. Sunrise Monday is at 6:57 a.m., with sunset at 6:27 p.m. The seasonal normals are 15 C for the daytime high and 5 C for the overnight low.
