Greater Montreal under yellow warning with up to 60 mm rainfall expected Tuesday

Rainfall totals of 40 to 60 millimetres are expected Tuesday in the Greater Montreal area, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC).
The federal agency has issued a “yellow” rain advisory covering Montreal, Laval, and the Montérégie region.
In the advisory, ECCC states that rain will begin falling Tuesday morning and that showers will continue into the evening. Between 40 and 60 millimetres of rain are expected.
The federal agency warns that “water accumulation is likely on roads and in low-lying areas” and that “visibility may be suddenly reduced at times.”
The cause: a “quasi-stationary” warm front associated with a low-pressure system moving south of the border. This front “will facilitate the passage of bands of heavy rain.”
For the Estrie region, Environment Canada has instead issued a special weather statement forecasting rainfall amounts of up to 30 to 50 millimetres.
