MONTREAL (CityNews) – After a three-month lockdown, retail therapy can now resume inside shopping malls in Montreal as of June 19.
But shopping experiences at Fairview Pointe-Claire and other malls will be pretty different with new safety measures in place.
“Basically when you walk in, you’ll be greeted by two hand sanitizer stations. Also, messages (will be) around to just reinforce public health guidelines,” explained Laurent Bruneau, General Manager at CF Fairview Pointe-Claire.
“Additional cleaning, we (also have) an additional presence in common areas to reinforce social distancing. We’re encouraging a flow inside the mall so people keep to their right as they’re walking just to encourage social distancing so we’ve put arrow decals all along the floor.”
Stores are controlling the number of clients they welcome and kiosks are taking extra precautions.

“We’ve closed off the corners so we don’t come out also. We have the distance also that we want with the customer, we’re putting on visors, we have some gloves also,” said Charles Bendayan, Owner of Lux Bijoux.
Masks are not mandatory for shoppers but they are strongly recommended.
“We’re also offering courtesy masks at guest services should anyone want one.”
The mall is also keeping a close eye on any busy corridors and is making sure people don’t linger.
“We’ve removed quite a bit of seating in the mall just because we don’t want to encourage gatherings. For the seats, we’ve added signage on the seats we don’t want them to use,” said Bruneau.
“We do recommend people come shopping with purpose and not just gather within the mall to just enjoy the AC.”
