Premier Legault to talk back-to-school, lifting curfew at press conference

Premier François Legault will hold a press conference today at 3 p.m., updating the province’s COVID-19 situation. He’s expected to talk more about back-to-school on Jan.17 and lifting the current 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew.

This comes after the premier confirmed on his Facebook page Wednesday night that elementary and high school students will return to in-person learning on Monday – as planned, with masks mandatory at all times (except while eating). CEGEPs and universities will also be able to return to classrooms.
The post reading that public health gave the government the green light and “that it’s very important for children to go back to school, to learn, to find their friends, to find a certain normalcy.”
Adding that, “the vast majority of children are not at a significant health risk with COVID. On the other hand, school delays and isolation can cause significant problems.”
The premier also added that he understands that parents, teachers, and school staff may have some worries, but that it’s reassuring that 98% of high schoolers have one dose of the COVID vaccine – 89% with two shots.
The premier saying that almost 60% of elementary students have one dose and that teachers have had access to their boosters as a priority group since the end of December.
Legault also promising the government will make rapid tests available to schools.
The 3 p.m. press conference will include Health Minister Christian Dubé, Education Minister Jean-François Roberge, and interim Public Health Director Dr. Luc Boileau.
