Oreo, Pudding and Onyx: trio of Quebec cats have millions of fans on social media

A Quebec-based trio of cats has racked up millions of subscribers and views on social media with funny and cute photos and videos.

Oreo, Pudding, and Onyx – along with owner Tina Modugno – are the stars of “The Oreo Cat” on TikTok, Instagram and other platforms.

The cats have more than two million subscribers and more than 54 million views on TikTok alone.

Modugno says the goal is spreading positivity through their content.

“I want it to be a safe place, a place that people can come, be happy, laugh and feel good,” said Modugno, the creator of the online accounts.

Oreo, Pudding, and Onyx all have very different personalities, says Modugno, and people respond to their interactions with likes and comments in the thousands.

“Pudding is very easy to film,” she said. “You can see he’s still young and he’s always doing something stupid, something crazy, something funny. Onyx is a little bit more reserved.”

Oreo, the veteran of the trio, has been on social media the longest. Modugno would post videos on Vine, then Musically, and now TikTok.

According to Modugno, Oreo was one of the first cats on the app, something she says helped in making him viral.

“I think that’s why they shared it, because they had never seen anything like that on the app before.”

And while it’s been many years of stardom for the trio, Modugno says it’s still a shock.

“If somebody had told me years ago that I would be a full-time pet creator, I’d be like, ‘what the heck is that?’ I would have never expected any of this.”

Modugno, who has also written and illustrated eight books, says the most important thing for her is that the content spreads positivity, something she will continue to do as long as people are watching.

“Throughout the pandemic, we kind of became somewhere for people who are all alone to go. We’re always there to help people feel happy and feel good.”
