Montrealers urged to avoid Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital ER

By News Staff

Montrealers in need of non-urgent medical care are being advised to avoid east-end hospitals in the city, and particularly, the Maisonneuve-Rosemont emergency room.

The local health authority is asking anyone who has a health problem that is not considered an emergency to opt for other solutions, because the ERs are swamped.

The latest data on ER occupancy rates in Quebec shows Maisonneuve-Rosemont at 185 per cent, the highest on the island, with the Royal Victoria right behind at 182 per cent. The province’s rate at 122 per cent (data as of 12:49 p.m. May 5).

“People in need of medical care can consult their family doctor or pharmacist, a doctor in a walk-in clinic or contact the Info-Santé line at 811 – where a nurse can advise them and direct them to the appropriate service,” said the CIUSSS de l’Est-de-l’Île-de-Montréal on Wednesday.
