Saint-Henri Jazz week brings music to the neighbourhood

By News Staff

No need to wait for the end of June to listen to some jazz in Montreal. Check out the inaugural Saint-Henri Jazz week, in the city’s southwest borough.

The set-to-be yearly event includes jazz masters and local musicians. It started May 3 and runs until May 8.

There are 30 artists taking part, in 26 indoor and outdoor shows. Open-air events are being held on Notre-Dame west. And there are workshops with roundtable discussion.

This festival is organized by the Saint-Henri Jazz Society (SJSH) and they say in a press release that it was “born out of the desire to enhance the jazz offering in town and to give jazz artists of Montreal new opportunities to perform and improve their art.”

The southwest borough encompasses St-Henri and Little Burgundy. Which have been homes to music giants Oliver Jones, Oscar Peterson and his teacher sister Daisy Peterson, among others.

Music starts mid-day and you can even catch acts until late into the evening.
