Abracadabra! Montreal magician with over 1.6 million TikTok followers

“The thing I like about magic is seeing other people happy,” says Raphael La Ferrara, a 17-year-old magician who captivates and inspires his over 1.6 million TikTok followers through his tricks. Pamela Pagano reports.

From card tricks to making objects disappear, 17-year-old magician, Raphael La Ferrara, captivates his over 1.6 million TikTok followers.

“The thing I like about magic is seeing other people happy,” said La Ferrara.

He first picked up a magic book at just eight years old. Astonished by the first trick he learned involving a rubber band, he decided to show his friends – they couldn’t believe their eyes. He’s been practicing magic ever since.

“Summer of 2019, I posted my most viral video of all time titled ‘When a Magician Gets Sick.’ So in the video, I was basically like making paper come out of my mouth, vomiting cards and stuff like that,” he explained.

That video got over 25 million views.

But before the Montreal teen became a TikTok sensation, he was bullied when he began posting his magic-filled videos to YouTube at 12-years-old.

“I kind of like found a way to just move forward from there and to not let, like, other people’s opinions or like their thoughts, you know, just bring me down,” he explained.

Today, his goal is to motivate young Montrealers and beyond to follow their dreams, and do what makes them happy – there’s magic in doing that.

“There’s magic in everything,” said La Ferrara.

But why should people believe in magic?

He says, because magic is actually around us every day. “Like magic when someone’s born in the family. Like magic’s around the world.”
