Montreal metro users pepper-sprayed during altercation at Place-des-Arts station

Several Montreal metro users were pepper-sprayed Thursday night during an altercation at the Place-des-Arts station, according to the STM.
The incident began in a train at the station around 11 p.m., when an altercation between two men led to one of the suspects using pepper spray, according to the STM.
Passengers called 911 and activated the train’s emergency brake, bringing it to a stop.
STM special constables responded to assist passengers, help evacuate the trains and restore normal service.
Montreal police (SPVM), firefighters and Urgences-santé also responded to the scene.
“The clientele in the train called 911 and activated the emergency brake, which immobilized the train,” STM spokesperson Laurence Houde-Roy said in an email to CityNews.
“The special constables of the STM intervened on site to take charge of the clientele, help with the evacuation of the trains and ensure a return to normal.”
The SPVM opened an investigation and the STM said it is co-operating with police.
The circumstances surrounding the altercation and the number of people affected were not immediately available.
