Montreal police increase visibility in RDP amid rising gun violence

By News Staff

Montreal police (SPVM) were in Rivièredes-Prairies on Wednesday, specifically on Perras Blvd., as they work to reassure the public amid rising gun violence in the area.

Bullets hitting the outside of a daycare in May – in broad daylight – no one hurt.

Police responding to at least eight instances of firearms being discharged in RDP since January.

And a triple murder last August on the same street.

Officers from station 45 setting up a command post Wednesday and meeting residents – as they’ve been increasing visibility in the area.

“It’s a priority for every unit in our department. And we see today it’s a joint operation, but not exclusively a police operation. It’s a shared responsibility because gone are the days where we used to say that public security is exclusively a police matter,” said Salvatore Serrao, spokesperson on the fight against gun violence for the SPVM.
