Gas prices drop in Montreal, hover around $2 at some stations

Drivers in Montreal are getting some relief at the pump.

Gas prices in the city dropped during the Canada Day weekend – at some stations by more than 15 cents in two days.

By Monday, a small handful of stations on the island were selling gas for just under $2 a litre, according to GasBuddy.

Several stations were selling gas between $2.01 and $2.06 – namely downtown, in NDG, the Plateau, Rosemont-Petite-Patrie and the Mile End.

Many stations hit all-time highs earlier this month, with gas selling for $2.23 at several locations on island.

Experts say the drop in wholesale prices can be attributed to an increase in U.S. inventory and a slowdown of the U.S.’s demand for gas, diesel and jet fuel.
