Heat warning in effect for Montreal, Laval, Longueuil this weekend

A heat warning is in effect for multiple cities and regions in southern Quebec this weekend.

Environment Canada is warning it will be very warm and humid, with humidex values reaching 40 C on Saturday and Sunday.

A heat warning is in effect for:

  • Châteauguay – La Prairie area
  • Laval area
  • Longueuil – Varennes area
  • Montréal Island area

Environment Canada says overnight temperatures are expected to be in the low to mid-twenties, bringing little relief from the daytime heat.

Cooler temperatures are forecast for Monday, although parts of Nova Scotia could continue to feel the overwhelming heat throughout the day.

The weather agency issues heat warning when high temperatures and humidity post an increased risk for heat stroke and heat exhaustion.

Residents are advised to watch for signs of heat illness such as swelling, cramps and fainting, and to drink plenty of water, stay in a cool place and check on older family, friends and neighbours.
