A Quebec man has been sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder and committing an indignity to a body in connection with the death of his wife, 34-year-old Robyn-Krystle O’Reilly.
Kevin Romagosa entered the guilty plea Monday morning at the Drummondville courthouse.
He had initially been charged with first-degree murder, but the case did not proceed to trial after a joint sentencing recommendation was accepted by the judge.
O’Reilly’s body was discovered in August 2023 along a rural road in Wickham, located in Quebec’s Centre-du-Québec region, about 100 kilometres southeast of Montreal. Romagosa, who was 40 at the time, was arrested at the scene.
The couple had been living together in Pierrefonds, a borough in Montreal.
Concerned family members had contacted police after losing contact with the couple, prompting a search that ended in tragedy.
Romagosa was sentenced to life in prison with no possibility of parole for 17 years.
On the charge of indignity to a body, he received a five-year sentence. Accounting for the 38 months he has already served in custody, he has 22 months remaining on that term. Both sentences will be served concurrently.
O’Reilly was the mother of two young children, aged four and six at the time of her death. A fundraiser was previously held in support of her mother, Tara O’Reilly, to help care for the children.
Earlier in the case, Romagosa had been found fit to stand trial following a court-ordered psychiatric evaluation, the contents of which remain confidential.
