Twelve people lost their lives in 11 vehicle accidents on Quebec roads during this year’s construction holiday, July 22 to August 7.
A slight increase from last year, when there were nine vehicle collisions during the same break. Twelve people were also killed in those accidents.
CAA-Quebec attributes the increase to more foreign tourists on Quebec roads this year, saying last year there was less travel from outside the province and country due to the pandemic.
The Sûreté du Québec reports speeding, distracted driving, and driving under the influence remain the three main causes of road accidents.
