Bloc Québécois challenges name of Bloc Montréal

The Bloc Quebecois is officially contesting the name of the new provincial party led by Balarama Holness, Bloc Montreal.

Bloc Quebecois’ president Johanne Deschamps, wrote in a letter sent to elections officials, that similarities between the two party names would only cause confusion.

Going on to say the values of each party are radically opposed “whether on language, regional development or ambitions for the future of Quebec.”

In response Holness tweeted the complaint had no “legal basis,”

“The fact that they’re coming to say, look at this one party, speaks about their legal incompetence because they didn’t look at the whole political ecosystem in Quebec,” said Holness at a presser early Friday morning.

Making note that both the Liberal Party of Quebec and the Liberal Party of Canada have had similar branding for years.

“Now we are not only fighting the fact that we’re going to get outspent and that we’re a new party, but also we have to demystify the fact that the Liberal Party of Quebec is not the liberal Party of Canada.”
