Giant ring downtown will be illuminated during celebration; Ariane Moffatt to perform
The giant steel ring in the heart of downtown Montreal will be the focal point of an anniversary celebration on Wednesday.
The 23,000-kilogram art installation will be lit up during an evening event centred around the 60th anniversary of Place Ville Marie (PVM).
Quebec singer-songwriter Ariane Moffatt will be performing outdoors to mark the occasion, as well as Senegalese Canadian rapper Sarahmée, and Cri.

Organizers say there will also be high-flying performances, a fire artist, an aerial musical performance, and dancers performing vertically on the six-story walls of the PVM buildings.
“This is the perfect opportunity to be the first to see The Ring illuminated, the finishing touch to the project conceived and designed by the landscape architecture firm Claude Cormier et Associés,” organizers said in a release.
The giant, 30-metre-high ring was installed downtown in June. The public art installation is suspended at the Place Ville Marie esplanade.
The project was evaluated at $5 million.
The ring is the last component of the major work carried out at PVM, with $200 million invested since 2017.
