Quebec Election Day 18: free birth control, feminine hygiene products & tax cuts

Québec solidaire co-spokesperson, Manon Massé was campaigning in Montreal on Wednesday morning. She said if her party is elected on Oct. 3, 2022 they will make birth control free and accessible to all women in Quebec. She also promised free feminine hygiene products in all public institutions, like schools. It’s expected to cost $30 million per year to fulfill this campaign promise.

Éric Duhaime, the leader of the Quebec Conservative Party was in Laval unveiling the party’s financial platform. He said if elected, the party plans on cutting the province’s expenses by over $32 billion. They also plan on cutting taxes by $38.5 billion over five years, promising that despite this loss of revenue, the budget would be balanced by 2023-2024.
The party would also look to lower personal income taxes and increase the basic personal income tax exemption to $20,000 from $15,728 and reduce some of the tax rates for the first $46,295: from 15 per cent to 13 per cent; and from $46,295 to $92,580: from 20 per cent to 18 per cent.
They are also looking to increase tax credits for experienced workers over 60 to encourage them to extend their careers and caregivers. And elimination of the QST on used goods, equipment and physical activities

Meanwhile, the other parties did not have any public events on day 18 of the Quebec Election campaign, as they prepare for the first French language debate tomorrow night on TVA.
