Liberals sneak into second place in final Léger poll, still far behind CAQ

By News Staff

With a day to go before the provincial election, a final poll has the Liberals sitting narrowly in second place ahead of other parties vying for Opposition status.

The latest Léger poll has Francois Legault’s Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) with a commanding lead – polling at 38 per cent.

But while the election has largely been considered a forgone conclusion – with the CAQ projecting to win a second majority – it’s the battle to form the official Opposition that’s mostly on the line.

The most recent data from Léger suggest Dominique Anglade’s Liberal Party of Quebec could receive 17 per cent of the vote on Oct. 3.

That’s a slight lead over Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois’ Québec solidaire (15 per cent), which is tied with Paul St-Pierre Plamondon’s Parti Québécois.

Just behind them is Éric Duhaime’s Conservative Party – at 14 per cent.

A separate web survey released Sunday – this time for Quebecor media properties Journal/TVA/QUB – also put the CAQ at 38 per cent followed.

Legault’s party was followed by Quebec solidaire, the Liberals, the Conservatives and the Parti Quebecois, each with 14 to 17 per cent. That poll cannot be assigned a margin of error because respondents were selected from an online panel and not at random.
