Montreal protesters joined a global rally Saturday afternoon to amplify the voices of those demonstrating in Iran.

The “Silence is Violence” march was organized by the “Woman, Life, Freedom Movement and Solidarity Association.”

Multiple rallies took place across Canada, the United States, Europe, Asia and Australia.

Anti-government protests in Iran, now entering their third month, were sparked by the death in police custody of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, who was detained for allegedly violating the Islamic Republic’s strict dress code.

The demonstrations have been repeatedly violently suppressed by the country’s security forces.

Those demonstrating in Montreal Saturday said they came out to denounce those violent and brutal crackdowns, as well as the execution of Mohsen Shekari.

Shekari was accused of blocking a street in Tehran and attacking with a machete a member of the security forces, who required stitches for his wounds, according to the Mizan news agency, run by Iran’s judiciary.

Shekari was executed only three weeks following his arrest.

The walk in Montreal began near Sauvé metro station and ended at the officer of Mélanie Joly, the minister of foreign affairs.

The rally coincided with the internationally recognized “Human Rights Day.”
